Formatting / Appearance - No complaints whatsoever, everything was ship-shape.
Story - All characters seem to have a sense of vulnerability about them which makes for better emotional connection with the reader. All aspects have been well-organized and researched. Given that she has created a whole new world, there are no slip ups in the timeline or settings.
What I liked - Everything about this book. I couldn't pick a favourite chapter or section because this book has you glued to the pages right from page 1.
What I didn't like - That we have to wait for Book 2. Really? I'm already in line.
December 3, 2012 By Andrea Kurian Format:Kindle Edition This is so much more than "just a book". A few clicks on the author's website plus recognising the background work that has been done for this book is simply mind-blowing. There are self-published authors who couldn't give a tuppence about what gets to their readers and then you have authors like Leandi who pour their lives into their work. The end result? An absolutely stunning masterpiece.
The conflicts raised for each character doesn't seem to overflow to the entire story. I felt that these conflicts were somewhat compartmentalized which worked really well for this book. I loved it also that the entire story was from the hero's perspective. You see him fall, rise and then fall a bit more. Every line and page of this book will have you spellbound. Be it from the story, setting, writing or simply the combination of all these elements. Although, Leandi has created a whole new world within the pages of this book, there is a strong cultural strength that I fell in love with. Again, maybe it was her attention to detail but you will not step away from this book without at least one scenic image planted in your head.
Would I recommend this read? Oh yes, definitely.
Overall assessment: Content: 5/5 Editing: 5/5 Formatting: 5/5 Pacing: 5/5 Offensive content?: PG13 to PG15, mostly for theme and content.
Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from the author through Orangeberry Book Tours. I did not receive any payment in exchange for this review nor was I obliged to write a positive one.
I LOVE this book!!!! I hope book two is ready tomorrow!!! 5/5 (AMAZON REVIEW)
December 2, 2012 By Delphina "Delphina Reads Too Much"This review is from: A Tale of the Other Kind: A Therian Novel (Kindle Edition) I was drawn to this book by the cover, which is so not how you should pick books, but there you have it. The thing that surprised as I was reading it, is that the cover is the least awesome thing about this book. I was blown away. The story is set in the beautiful mountain range and forest-covered area of Sabie, in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Since this is written by a South African author, be prepared for non-American English in both spelling and punctuation. I did not find this to be the least bit distracting once I realized the different quotation markings. This also means that we get a true feeling of what the climate, landscape and culture of this area.
The combination of these amazingly rich characters and the unique lore all within this amazing backdrop of Sabie made this tale spellbinding. I could not put it down and was sad when it was over. While there is a romance in this book, this book is so much more than a romance novel and seeing it tagged as romance on Amazon makes me hope that people will see past the tagging and check out this gem even if "romance" novels are not their "thing". That being said, if you love romance, this book surely has that covered for you.
It was nice to read a YA book that was more focused on the hero than the heroine. Seeing him as he struggled with who is is and who he is to become was part of the magic of this book. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. I have not seen what the release date is expected to be, but it is said to be in production, so that makes me happy. While this is YA, I am leaning towards it being YA Mature for a 16 plus audience.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thirsting for more 5/5
Phoebe Sor Nov 1, 12 Recommends it for: Anybody who craves fantasy, love, adventure and mystery Recommended to Phoebe by: Found it on Goodreads A Tale of the Other Kind: A Therian Novel is the story of Kai, a mysterious boy who goes through a strange journey when he turns 18. Forget any were-leopard, vampire and werewolf romances you have read before, A Tale of the Other Kind, is so unique it is almost like it’s in its own genre. The book is marketed at Young Adult readers but it has the ability to cross age barriers and will satisfy both teenagers and adults alike.
The story slowly unravelles through out the book, but never drags. Even by the end of the book I was still thirsting for more of Kai's new world - and hopefully Astrid's character might be developed further in future books.
A Tale of the Other Kind, is simply and yet beautifully written, with just enough detail for your own imagination to take over. The descriptions of Sabie leave you feeling like you can almost touch the forest, smell the air, feel the breeze and hear the rain falling.
The romance between Kai and Sienna is both touching and compelling. There is a melancholic feel to their impossible love, yet at the same time they both are unwilling to give up hope that their relationship is not doomed. The book reaches a fever pitch of excitement as the romance between Kai and Sienna turns into a frantic race to stay alive.
This book really has something for everyone. Young adult readers, were-leopard, werewolf and vampire fans or romance readers will all find A Tale of the Other Kind, to be an appealing story.
For a Young Adult novel, each page of this book can be savoured. Believe me, this is one book that you won’t want to end, and I can't wait for the next one!
Drawn into the adventure 5/5
Linda Rostoll Nov 1, 12 Recommends it for: Everyone who love and adventure Recommended to Linda by: Vikki Rostoll-olivier Wow the book cover is so beautiful. I can recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure, fantasy, love and drama and some humor all into one. I could not put the book down and was drawn into the adventure of Kai's new world. Kai is a strong young man and knows exactly what he wants and will do whatever it takes to protect his family. Sienna is equally stongminded as Kai, but I would love to get to know Astrid (the fiesty one)better and realy hope that the next series will have alot more of her story. The writer explains Kai's world including his feelings in such a way that you cannot help but fall in love with this goodlooking young man. The end was just very sudden and sad and my heart went out for Kai. I am looking forward to more of Kai, Sienna and Astrids adventures and hopefully the the Stranger will stick his head out much more in the next series.A Tale of the Other Kind: A Therian NovelLeandi Cameron

I started reading and couldn't put it down. The book keeps you engaged and you can't wait to read what happens next. You feel all the struggles and emotions that Kai goes through and you fall in love with his character. The story and characters are so well described that you can picture the whole scene in your mind. Definitely a book that can be made into a big screen movie. I am very excited for the next book, and can't wait to see where Kai's journey takes him!A Tale of the Other Kind: A Therian Nove lLeandi Cameron
Easy, entertaining read 4/5 (AMAZON REVIEW)
4.0 out of 5 stars Easy, entertaining read, February 6, 2013
This review is from: A Tale of the Other Kind (A Therian Novel) (Kindle Edition) I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. The characters were easy to relate to and the story line was easy to follow. I do have to admit that I was hooked just by looking at the cover. The mysterious nature of the graphics made me want to read the book even though I had not read the synopsis. The author creatively weaves the twists and turns so that you can't help but want to keep turning those pages! I can't wait to read more from the author :)
Enthusiastic applause 4/5 (AMAZON REVIEW)
Tanjlisa Marie's review Oct 22, 12 Read from October 17 to 22, 2012 COVER: The cover draws you in. It is sensual, mysterious, and gives you an idea of what’s to come. CHARACTERS: The characters in this story were profound and realistic. Kai, the protagonist, came across as the sexy loner. He was respectful and thank God he wasn’t a pushover (I despise pushover good guys!). In a couple of scenes he got into fights and took up for his woman (way to go, Kai!). Sienna, Kai’s love interest, was no shrinking violet. Although Kai comes to her rescue more than once in the book, she shows him that she can take care of herself. Astrid, the sidekick, adds flavor to all the scenes she’s in. I liked her character best of all. CONFLICT: So, Kai finds out that there’s something other-worldly weird about him. He tries to stay away from the girl he loves in order to protect her. Of course that proves futile and even when others tell him to stay away, he ignores all the warnings. Because of this forbidden love, Kai has caused the wrath of a jealous god to be cast upon him and all his loved ones. Does he give up his love or does he fight for his right to party? I thought it took a little long to get to the conflict. A lot of time was spent with the James-and-Sienna fight that I thought it would be super significant in some way. VILLAIN: To me, the villain makes the story. They have the all-rights pass to be as bad as they want to be. I find it interesting how each writer takes advantage of this opportunity to project evil genius into characters. I had high hopes for Quinn, the jealous god who doesn’t want any non-human to fall in love with a human. When he first entered the story, he grabbed me with his line, “Things could be easy for you Kai. You should refrain from being seduced by that which you are so eager to indulge in.” I was like, yes, there’s the bad guy! He sounded wickedly classy. But then we don’t hear from him until waaayyy later in the story! I would have liked to see more of him. He did kill for no reason, increasing his diabolical rating. The ultimate-battle fight scene should have had more Quinn showing off his villainy skills. ENDING: There’s nothing worse than going through a story only to be let down at the end. That was not the case with this story. I did think Kai changed his mind too easily at the end. Given his character, it would have seemed more realistic if he struggled more with whether or not he wanted to continue putting the love of his life in constant danger. But overall, I really enjoyed the story! The journey was good and the climax appropriate. Can’t wait to read the second installment! Tanjlisa’s Rating System: Pretending to clap, Pity clap, Medium clap, Enthusiastic applause, Standing ovation I give A Tale of the Other Kind an Enthusiastic applause. I enjoyed it and will read the second installment!
A story full of action, romance and sacrifice 4/5 (AMAZON REVIEW)
4.0 out of 5 stars A story full of action, romance, and sacrifice., January 14, 2013
This review is from: A Tale of the Other Kind: A Therian Novel (Volume 1) (Paperback) A Tale of The Other Kind is set in a spectacular mountain range that is in a forest-covered area of Sabie, in Mpumalanga, South Africa. This story is told from the teen hero's perspective. Kai is a strong character that finds out something about himself that changes his whole world. Kai is someone, or something different than he thought he was. As he figures out the secret of his true identity, and his lost father, new evils and other world creatures become a part of his life. Author Leandi Cameron has created a world full of powerful Gods and supernatural creatures. I was excited to read this book about Shape-shifters. If they fall in love with a human, the powerful and evil God Quinn, will destroy that love by killing their human lover/mate. There is a legend behind this evil villain's actions, too long to put here. You will have to read the book to find out more.
Kai and Sienna are a great couple whose love goes through many ups and downs.I like them together and how they truly fought for each other and for their love. The ending is quite shocking, but thrilling. It's nice to read a YA Paranormal book that has some new twists written in. This book will be enjoyed by older teens(ages 14+) and adults. I wouldn't recommend this to tweens ormiddle grade readers(ages 8-13) because of some violence and bad language. Everyone else will love this story full of action, romance, and sacrifice.
FROM AMAZON: This review is from: A Tale of the Other Kind: A Therian Novel (Volume 1) (Paperback) I found this book compelling from the start. It is quite refreshing to read about how Cameron created an entire new world and way of thinking surrounding shapeshifters, vampires, were-leopards and all other fantasical beings we love to read. I fell in love with the protagonist from the get-go, and hoped for his part that he would get the girl. I, too, found Astrid to be a compelling character, and I foresee much more for her and Kai in the future. Can't wait for the follow up!
Recommend to anyone who loves fantasy 5/5

Very creative and a breath of fresh air, takes me into a whole other world. Cannot wait to get the entire series.

progress: (page 50 of 270) "Reading the Kindle version so I really couldn't give a page number. Really enjoying the book! I'm at the part of the book where the unscrupulous characters are making themselves known. I like the scene when the dark stranger enters the bookstore. He sprouts off a mysterious line: “Things could be easy for you Kai. You should refrain from being seduced by that which you are so eager to indulge in.” Classic!!" — Oct 17, 2012 06:47pm
